About My HiFi
MISSION
My HiFi is an ad hoc committee comprised of stakeholders, supporters and advocates of Los Angeles's Historic Filipinotown. My HiFi is focused on identifying, documenting, and recognizing places of historic or cultural significance in the neighborhood.
My HiFi's three major objectives for reclaiming, capturing, and expanding historic and cultural preservation in Historic Filipinotown are to :
IDENTIFY PLACES
* Assess and identify places of historic or cultural significance in Historic Filipinotown.
* Collaborate with local non-profit organizations and community groups in local projects and programs.
DOCUMENT PLACES
* Collect and archive photographs, oral histories, and written materials about places of historic or cultural significance in Historic Filipinotown.
RECOGNIZE PLACES
* Advocate for historic or cultural recognition of specific sites on local, state, and federal levels.
My HiFi is committed to developing partnerships with other community groups and non-profit agencies on efforts related to historic and cultural preservation, community development, and cultural tourism.
HISTORY
My HiFi was initiated in July 2010 by a group of urban planners, historians, and community leaders interested in developing an ad hoc committee focused on historic and cultural preservation in Historic Filipinotown. With an upcoming city-wide survey slated on historic and cultural resources in the neighborhood as a catalyst, My HiFi was created to coordinate community-based project and advocate for the preservation and recognition of historic and cultural resources in Historic Filipinotown. All of the founding members have extensive work experience and community involvement in Historic Filipinotown. Founding members have been directly involved in community-based preservation work and advocacy, ranging from the designation of the Filipino Christian Church as a historic-cultural monument to the 2002 municipal designation of Historic Filipinotown. Other works include the design of Unidad Park, the development of Filipino American Library's neighborhood tours, and implementation of the Historic Filipinotown Streetscape Plan.
